Jen Dacota, Artist & Painter
I am in LOVE with color.
Hobe Sound Currents, Vol 3, Issue 3
Always a keen observer of her surroundings, Jen Dacota has been recording these images in her mind and on paper since childhood. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, in Sparkill, New York. Following a traumatic closed head injury, Jen began to paint as a therapeutic means to stimulate brain activity. She loved the feel of paint on the canvas beneath her fingers helping her to connect with her work in a real way. Many of her works were created by using just her fingertips. She finds this method freeing and prefers using it when the subject matter allows. Jen’s paintings contain brilliant vivid color and expressive form and movement.
Recently she has been experimenting with tar and mixed media as well as painting. She finds adding other media to her work creates a dramatic surface adding more drama and creating a more contemporary feel.
Jen is painting full time in her home studio creating pieces that have been selected for many local juried art shows in Florida and in the Northeast. Several of her pieces have attracted the eye of private collectors. Jen Dacota is a member of The Barn Artists Group and the Seabranch Art League, both of Hobe Sound Florida.
